Whooping Cough

Whooping cough is pretty common in children, which is caused by bacterial infection. The affected areas are mainly lungs and the windpipe. Babies with whooping cough have spells of constant coughing for 20-30 seconds followed by a period of breathlessness before the next episode starts. It’s called whooping because of the bird-like sound of the cough. It can be dangerous in children under the age of 1 as they are already susceptible to other conditions like pneumonia, convulsions and even death.

Wind

It is just the air inside a baby’s tummy which gets there while sucking on the milk bottle or breast. The baby gets irritated and fussy due to gas pain. It’s more common while feeding from bottle because while feeding from the breast, flow and sucking can be maintained at a slower pace according to the pull by the baby. Wind results in babies having less feed as their stomachs already feel full due to the air. Using certain postures can help the child burp, hence relieving it off the gas.
